Sewage Sludge Treatment

Sewage sludge is a by-product of sewage treatment. It takes two forms; semi-solid waste (raw or digested biosolids) and slurry (liquid sludge). Both forms of sewage sludge require further treatment before they can be safely disposed of or recycled.

Our lime solutions play an essential role in sewage sludge treatment. Biocal quicklime (calcium oxide) is widely used for the treatment and hygienisation of raw or digested biosolids. Kalic and Kalic HS liquid lime (suspension of calcium hydroxide) are used to aid the concentration of the solid contents of liquid sludge in preparation for dewatering.

We also offer a range of specialist lime solutions for the pasteurisation of treated sludge; the final stage in a process that turns a potentially harmful waste stream into a safe and natural fertilizer for use on agricultural land.
